Flood Ravages 18 Communities In Udu, As Ten Cheat Death

By Sunday Apah
At least, ten persons have cheated death in Udu kingdom as flood ravaged over 18 communities in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The communities affected included Emadadja, Ekrota, Ubogo, Ukpiovwin, Ukperheren, Obubu, Oghior, Ogbe-Udu, Okolor Waterside, Okolor Inland, Egini and Erhiephihor.
Others were Ayama, Epame, Aladja, Orhuwhorun, Ugbisi, Otor-Udu and many others.
Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Chief Jite Brown, who took journalists on an on-the-spot assessment at the affected communities, said almost 65 percent of the communities in the locality had been ravaged by the flood.
He stated that houses, farmlands and properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed.
According to him, “we are still intensifying efforts to know the extent of the damage because there are areas we can no longer access until the flood recedes.”
“We are trying to see how we can move those displaced by the flood to nearby IDP camps to enable those who are willing render assistance to them to do so,” he added.
He commended the efforts of the state governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, in mitigating the negative effect of the ravaging flood in the state.
